Landmarks in the county include the white chalk cliffs of Beachy Head, the cliff is the highest chalk sea cliff in Britain and rises to 162m above sea level. The county is rich in history and the area’s position on the coast means it was frequently a target for invaders throughout history, in particular with the Romans and later the Normans. There are many castles and historical points of interest still visible today including Bodiam Castle, Pevensey Castle and the Martello Towers. The county is often considered as one of the greenest in the UK and there are many large parks dotted throughout the area.
The Long Man of Wilmington is a large figure of a person situated on a hill in Wilmington. The exact origins are not known however archaeological studies suggest the figure is from the sixteenth or seventeenth century AD.
